Our Yamaha DGX-640 Review
Lets get stuck into our Yamaha DGX-640 review:-
The Yamaha DGX-640 digital piano keyboard, which replaces the DGX-630, is an 88-key Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) portable piano keyboard which comes in two different colours:- Walnut and Cherry (Cherry being the colour choice of the DGX-630), and although very similar to its predecessor the DGX-640 offers a few upgrade differences.
The improvements and what other Yamaha DGX-640 review (s) are saying is it includes more voices, some upgraded styles and an increased number of sounds.
Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) Keyboard
If you are after that all important piano playing experience, but without having to pay a lot more for a real piano, the Yamaha DGX-640 has a graded hammer standard (GHS) keyboard, giving it the feel of actually playing like a real piano, where the lower keys are heavier in touch and become lighted as you move up to the higher keys.
An Array of Dynamic and Realistic Sounds
This keyboard has a huge variety of electrically amplified and acoustic sounds due the Sweet! Live! and Cool! voice technology, which when set up correctly can sound very natural and just like other instruments.
Digital Signal Processor (DSP)
In effect DPS, allows you to completely transform and enhance the sounds and voices you can achieve from this keyboard. So be playing around with the 237 different DPS types you can have a lot more fun creating your own unique sounds other than just a real piano sound, which is excellent on its own
Front facing USB Port & USB Host
The Yamaha DGX-640 has a front facing USB port, which is very convenient for connecting memory devices such as hard drives or flash drives, so you can save any songs you may have created on the keyboard. And the rear USB host is great for connecting your keyboard to your computer to take advantage of any typical music software.
Use of the Yamaha Education Suite (Y.E.S.)
If you are a complete beginner the in-built Yamaha Education Suite provides simple but easy to follow lessons, helping you to teach yourself what the right hand and left hand should be doing in order to master and learn a song from scratch.
Optional three-pedal unit (LP-7A)
If you decide to get the DGX-640 from Amazon, it will already include a PA150 power adapter & sustain pedal, but you may want to consider the optional three-pedal unit (LP-7A). If you choose this keyboard for a true piano like experience then the optional LP-7A three pedal unit will give you those all important range of effects that you can achieve on an acoustic piano.
Other additional features we found useful during our Yamaha DGX-640 review are:-
- Easy Song Arranger – change the style and arrangement of a song from a ballad to a hip-hop tune with this feature
- Music database – for selecting the best voice and styles for whatever type of music you want to play
- Performance Assistant Technology (P.A.T.) – Help beginners feel like their are playing like a pr0
- Decorative wooden stand
- Backlit LCD displays lyrics, chords & notation
So lets look at what negative feedback our Yamaha DGX-640 review revealed
Negative Feedback
Although the Yamaha DGX-640 is one fantatic keyboard, our Yamaha DGX-640 review also reveiled a few minor issues that some people have expressed with DGX-640 which we think is only fair to give mention to hear.
We did find one person mention that thought the repetoire of songs in-built into the Yamaha DGX-640 is not huge for practising with. However, think about it, if you brought a real piano you wouldn’t get any songs to practice with, and when comparied to other keyboards the 30 songs included are more than enough to aid in your learning experience.
Another person we found felt the that although the keyboard is sturdy and looked decent, they felt that the wood portions of the keyboard looked a little synthetic compared to a real piano, however, other than that they couldn’t fault the keyboard. This is such a minor point, but in the end it all does come down to personal choice.
Thats all the real negative feedback we found for our Yamaha DGX-640 review, however, always do your research before hand.
